Juices vs. Smoothies - Which is Better?

October 27, 2017

Juices and smoothies make it easy for your cells to quickly assimilate the high quality nutrients found in fruits, vegetables and especially, dark leafy greens. Very few people eat enough raw fruits and vegetables. Juices and smoothies provide a quick and easy way to increase your consumption of these foods.

Why Juice?

Fresh made juices are the most potent form of nutrition. When we juice the fruits and vegetables, their goodness is released from the fiber and we are able to drink their highly concentrated nutrients which are then able to enter our bloodstream very quickly. Since juicing removes the indigestible fiber, nutrients are available to the body in much larger quantities than if the piece of fruit or vegetable was eaten whole. For example, because many of the nutrients are trapped in the fiber, when you eat a raw carrot, you are only able to assimilate about 1% of the available beta carotene. When a carrot is juiced, removing the fiber, nearly 100% of the beta carotene can be assimilated.

Green juices are the best, like wheatgrass juice. They provide your blood and body with the essential nutrients and purification that they require. Fresh green juices provide us with minerals, vitamins, essential fatty acids, carbohydrates, proteins and much more. The nutritional essence of plants is best derived from their juice. Sunlight infuses all life; plants are the storehouses of nature’s captured and distributed sunlight.

Try to drink at least one green juice a day for optimal health. The only reason we cannot live entirely on juices is because, eventually our kidneys would eventually get tired (after maybe six months of nothing but juices.) The kidneys are not designed to carry 100% of the burden of supplying nutrients to the body over a long period of time. However, a short term juice fast is the best remedy for colds and flu’s. This supplies nutrients and removes the burden of digestion of fiber which saves energy that can then be used to boost the immune system.

Here are more reasons to juice:

Cleansing your body of toxins

Healing diseases

Strengthened immune system

Increased energy

Increased strength

Clearing your mind

Hydration

Anti-aging

Glowing complexion

Stronger bones

An excellent vehicle for fasting

Building and maintenance of the electrolyte, kidney and respiratory systems

Juices can flush toxins from your body, are good for your weight, heart, circulation and overall well being. Juices contain no saturated fats or added sodium and can be helpful in lowering your cholesterol. Drink fresh juices within fifteen minutes after it has been extracted to obtain all of its multifaceted nutritional benefits.

Why Drink Smoothies?

Smoothies, as opposed to juices, are a complete food because they still have fiber. Most of the benefits of juices outlined above also apply to smoothies. Green smoothies are the best. Regular consumption of green smoothies forms a good habit of eating greens - Eating enough of green leafy vegetables is often a problem with many people, especially children. This gets much needed minerals into the body which is key.

Here are more reasons to drink green smoothies:

Green smoothies are also tasty for adults and children

Green smoothies reduce cravings for sugar and other processed foods that are not good for you.

Fiber in green smoothies helps improve elimination.

Green smoothies can help you lose weight

Beautiful skin, bright eyes, and shiny hair.

Experience overall improved health, increased energy and clear thinking.

Green smoothies are easy to digest.

Green smoothies are easy to make, and quick to clean up after.

Conclusion:

Slow speed juicers are better than high speed juicers at preserving nutrients. Likewise, blending at very high speeds for too long will cause excessive oxidation and a reduction in nutrients. Blend at low speeds for as little time as necessary to mix the ingredients. Fresh is always best. Drink your juice or smoothie as soon as possible for the best health effects.

While both are excellent, juicing is superior to blending in terms of delivering nutrients to your cells. Smoothies are more convenient because they are quicker to make and clean-up is a snap. Always use organic ingredients as much as possible.
